DUBAI, Feb 2 --When Rory McIlroy posed with the elegant Dubai Desert Classic trophy against the lively backdrop of the lake guarding the 18th green on Sunday evening, the Northern Ireland teenager at 19 and 273 days became the seventh youngest winner in European Tour history.
It was McIlroy''s first professional victory in 46 events since turning pro on September 19, 2007, elevating him to 16th in the Official World Golf Ranking. McIlroy, who earned won $ 416,660 (euro 324,261) for his efforts, also moved to second with euro 609,409 in the Race to Dubai.

The Northern Ireland teenager closed with a 70 for a tournament total of 19 under par 269, one shot ahead of Justin Rose of England two of Sweden''s Henrik Stenson for his first victory in 46 European Tour events.
DUBAI, Jan 31 - Rory McIlroy continues his magical run in the Dubai Desert Classic, moving two shots ahead of the field with eight holes still to play in the penultimate round as Matthew Turner created history of sorts by becoming the first amateur from the UAE to make the half-way stage cut on Saturday.
A clear blue sky greeted 72 golfers as they returned to the Emirates Golf Club to complete their second round after fog disrupted play in the first two days, forcing the tournament officials to have two tee times with three players in each group for the final two rounds.
