Emirates Golf Club The Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club was the first grass golf course in the center East. The 36-hole venue will once again play host to one of the most popular events on the European Tour.

The 7,301-yard include a recent aerial shot of Emirates Golf Club, par-72 Majlis Course has become one of the favourite venues for the world's top golfers. Carved from the desert, the Majlis course - with its lush fairways and large quick greens - uses the natural terrain of the land to provide a formidable test of golf.

Emirates Golf ClubIn keeping with H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's desire to preserve as much of the land's natural character, numerous patches of desert and the natural vegetation that is consistent with this terrain will gobble up wayward shots. One such area punishes over ambitious drives on the par 4, eighth hole. Standing on the elevated tee box a pushed drive or a slice will find a plethora of natural bush that almost makes it impossible to hit the green in regulation. The green is protected by five bunkers making a par on this hole during the Dubai Desert Classic, a very impressive score.

All great courses have great finishing holes and the Majlis is no exception with an 18th hole to rival any. At just under 550 yards, this loveable monster of a hole is a 90-degree dog-leg left, leaving big hitters to imagine a drive that cuts off the corner, setting up the chance to go for the green in two. The final hole's double green is bordered by a lake that has broken the hearts of many. Ian Woosnam's hopes of winning the 1997 Dubai Desert Classic were dashed when from a certain winning position he misfired a wedge shot that landed in the lake. He then went on to lose to Australia's Richard Green in the play-off.

However, the most famous victim to the 18th is none other than world no.1 Tiger Woods. Seemingly on his way to victory in the 2001 Dubai Desert Classic, Woods punched his third shot into the lake allowing a grateful Thomas Bjorn - his playing partner - to see out the hole and win the magnificent Desert Classic trophy while Woods rued what might have been. Great memories of a memorable course.
